Significant Deed’s Member Recounts Visit Paid to Orphelinat Sainte Thérèse

It was on a normal day as usual, March 2016, when some members of the Significant Deed’s association paid an ordeal visit to Orphelinat Sainte Thérèse at the Obili neighborhood. This visit was comprised of all the existing 6 members at the time.

On our arrival at the premises, the event started off with a short opening speech by one of our members followed by a welcome speech by one of the sisters who took care of the kids.  . This moment was geared with a lot of emotions. Joy and happiness is what was written on their beautiful innocent faces as they opened their arms to cheer us. They looked so ecstatic and were in a high glee.

Taking a look at the inn, I noticed the dilapidating nature of the building and also the paint which was worn off in some areas of the house. There were about 25 orphans with the oldest being 12 and the youngest being 9months old. The three caretakers told us that they have been anticipating measures to renewing the building and the project is still to be reached with the amount of money they are to attain. She added that, given the restricted size of the house, they had to be reluctant in accepting more orphans into the orphanage, until the premises was adequate enough to accommodate more children.

It was soon lunch time and it was an absolute pleasure for us to share the little snacks we had brought with the kids. Amongst the coveted items offered to the inmates were foodstuffs like bags of rice, packets of spaghettis, dozens of bottles of groundnut oil, palm oil, milk, sweets, blankets, mattresses, books, pens and many more which we thought necessary for the children.

Minutes of joy and relaxation as we played with the children and they entertained us with songs, dances and games they had learnt during their stay there at the orphanage. Most of them were really apt and serious in what they were doing thus, showing the level of seriousness and good training they receive from their mentors.

Unfortunately, it was time for us to leave as the children expressed a sad mood on their faces. Nevertheless, we tried to reboot their morals as we promised to come back another day with much more surprises for them. We all together had a piece of prayer thanking the Lord for the wonderful day and continuous intervention in our lives. These  are said to be memories never to forget.
